He wasn’t quite 7 years older than me. He was born on Halloween 1967 and died from a complication of COVID-19 in April 2020. His name is Adam Schlesinger.

He wrote the theme song for “That Thing You Do”. The filmmakers actually held a contest for the theme song, and he won. He wrote the main song for the film “Josie and the Pussycats”, and he was the executive music producer for the TV show “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”. That was all writing/producing for other artists, though. The biggest hit for Schlesinger’s actual band (Fountains of Wayne), was “Stacy’s Mom”. The song (and its video) was just perfect. Ironically, it was probably a big part of what ended the band, though.
